The First Step:

When considering an education storytelling event, the first thing a school or district must decide is their goal as a school or disctrict. What is your mission statement? How will the storytelling festival help you fulfill your scholastic mission?

The Big Meeting:

Once Patty Smith determined how storytelling would be beneficial to her students, she sat down with other educators in her district and they determined specifically what their objectives were. Each year since then they meet to decide upon a main theme to guide the next year’s festival. For their 2000 Festival they chose "Building the Vision (Achievement)."
